Further information

To simplify the algorithm, all requirements that are before the start of the heuristic, are groupedtogether with a requirement with the requirements date 'heuristic start' (-> no time consuming determination of 'penalty costs').

For delayed receipts, penalty costs are determined within the system (see above for exception). Theunit costs for such requirements are much higher than the usual unit costs, because of these penalty costs. Thus, delayed receipts should be avoided where possible.

When determining the optimum receipt, purchase order quantities with the following characteristics, are selected:

1) Total penalty costs are as low as possible,

2) Unit costs per unit are as low as possible and

3) The purchase order quantity is as high as possible

Note: Penalty costs and unit costs are considered separately, since otherwise the result is distorted.If penalty costs occur once, the unit costs would be 'extremely' high, if they were considered together.By adding further requirements, the unit costs become increasingly lower (even with relatively high/avoidable storage costs).
