Functionality

This activity prepares a new top object ID (e.g. for a pallet) for a finished packed object hierarchyfor tag writing using the Print Tag activity. By standard this hierarchy gets determined by the actionstatus of the actions related to the specified device group (action status "Waiting for top object ID").This new object ID can be either manually created using the UI or it can be created automatically within the activity.

Automatic object ID generation per top object works as follows:

First the product(s) related to the GTINs of the inner items are determined. Then the GTIN(s) of theseproducts related to the unit of measure given in parameter 'UOM_OF_TOP_LEVEL_OBJECT' are determined.If this GTIN is the same for all products, an SGTIN-EPC will be generated based on this GTIN. Otherwise an SSCC-EPC will be generated.

Activity parameters:

• AUTOMATIC_EPC_GENERATION controls the internal EPC creation. It has the following values:

• 'NEVER'. Container EPC can only be created manually using the UI.

• 'ALWAYS'. Container EPC will always be created automatically based on inner items (e.g. cases) of the container. Manually created EPCs will be ignored.

• 'IF_NO_EPC_PROVIDED'. Container EPC will be generated automatically only if no EPC is created manually.

• GENERATE_SSCC_ALWAYS prevents the SGTIN EPC generation and creates always SSCC-EPCs.

• PRETEND_TOP_EPC_READING can be used to update the container observation with the newly generated EPC. The action object status is "Assumed Read", since this EPC was never actually scanned via EPC scanner.

• SSCC_EPC_TYPE specifies the SSCC EPC format for the automatic generation. It has values 'SSCC-96' and 'SSCC-64'.

• SSCC_EPC_FILTER_VALUE specifies the SSCC EPC filter value for the automatic generation. This is a positive integer value.

• SGTIN_EPC_TYPE specifies the SGTIN EPC format for the automatic generation. It has values 'SGTIN-96' and 'SGTIN-64'.

• SGTIN_EPC_FILTER_VALUE specifies the SGTIN EPC filter value for the automatic generation. This is a positive integer value.

• DETERMINE_HIERARCHY_BY_EPC overrides the standard object hierarchy determination which is basedon the action status (see above). Instead the hierarchy within the activity context is used (if thetop object ID is also given in the activity context) or alternatively the hierarchy of the object table for a given object ID is used (if the top object ID is not part of the activity context).

• LOCK_RETRY_WAIT specifies the number of seconds between locking retrials. The activity places exclusive locks on the data of the device message.

Relationships

Activity DEVICE_ACTION_CONTROL_SIGNAL changes the action status of the currently packed container from "Open" to "Waiting for container ID".

Activity DEVICE_VALIDATE _40 with parameter HIERARCHY_BY_DEVGRP or GROUP_BY_MESSAGE processes the inner items of the currently open container. It can also be used to "Open" a new container.
